Botanically known as Citrus sinensis from the Rutaceae family. China Orange, also commonly referred to as sweet orange, is a citrus fruit widely cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions around the world, with China being one of the largest producers. It is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree, reaching heights of up to 10 meters when grown in optimal conditions. The leaves are glossy, ovate to elliptical in shape, and emit a fragrant aroma when crushed.
The flowers of the China Orange are white, fragrant, and usually appear singly or in clusters. The fruit is round to oval-shaped, with a smooth, finely-textured peel that ranges in color from green to orange as it ripens. The pulp inside is juicy, segmented, and divided into numerous sections filled with sweet-tasting, acidic juice. China Oranges are known for their vibrant orange color, succulent flesh, and refreshing flavor, making them a popular choice for fresh consumption as well as for juicing and culinary purposes.

Growing Tips
- China Orange plants thrive in well-drained, sandy loam soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. They do not tolerate waterlogged conditions, so ensure proper drainage.
- Full sunlight is essential for optimal growth and fruit production. Provide at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- These plants prefer warm, subtropical climates with temperatures ranging between 15°C to 30°C. Protect them from frost as they are sensitive to cold temperatures.
- Pruning can be done to remove dead or diseased branches and to shape the tree. Prune after the fruiting season to encourage new growth.
- Apply organic fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium every 3-4 months to promote healthy growth and fruit development.
- Mulching around the base of the tree helps retain soil moisture and suppresses weed growth.
