About the Plants -
- Botanically known as the Couroupita guianensis, it is well known with many common names like Cannonball Tree / Naga Champa / Naga lingam / Shivalingam, etc.,
- It is mainly cultivated for its beautiful, fragrant flowers and large, interesting fruits which are brownish-grey in color.
- It blooms and bears fruit simultaneously.
- The exotic red flowers smell like expensive perfume and the flowers are the symbol of wealth.
- This tree has cultural and religious significance in India and flowers are used for Shiva Pooja.
- One tree can hold as many as 1000 flowers per day. The flowers are strongly scented and are especially fragrant at night and in the early morning.
- The fruits are spherical with a woody shell and reach diameters of up to 25 centimeters, which gives the species the common name "cannonball tree".
- One tree can bear 150 fruits. The fruits take up to a year to mature in most areas, sometimes as long as 18 months.
Religious Believes
In India, the tree introduced from South America has been adopted as sacred to Hindu, who believe its hooded flowers look like the naga, and it is grown at Lord Shiva temples. The cannonball tree has since then been planted at Buddhist and Hindu religious sites in Asia in the belief that it is the tree of sacred scriptures.
Maximum Height - It can reach heights of up to 30 meters.
Flowering Season - It flowers from November till May.
Landscape uses - Planted in Botanical Garden, as Ornamental plant in Garden, near Temples, specimen, etc.

PLANT CARE
LIGHT CONDITION - More than 6 hours of Direct Sunlight.
WATERING SCHEDULE - Water when the topsoil(2-3 inches) feels dry to touch.
SOIL TYPE - The soil should be well-drained, fertile & rich in organic content.
FERTILIZER APPLICATION - Initially up to 1 year apply any organic fertilizer once a month. After full establishment apply any organic fertilizer(2-3 times a year)
INITIAL CARE FOR 10-15 DAYS JUST AFTER RECEIVING YOUR PLANT
- Remove the Packaging Materials carefully.
- Press the soil in the pot & add additional soil(garden mix) if necessary.
- Maintain moisture in the pot, Do not overwater it may kill your plant, so make sure that the soil should be dry between watering.
- Provide support with stick/moss stick(vine plant) in order to make straight growth, for needed plant only.
- Make sure that plants get enough direct bright light for 10-15 days & do not go for immediate transplanting(minimum 1-2month)
- Just prune if any branch of the plant is get damaged in transit. It happens very rarely.
